Loyal Studios Provides Cameras and Technical Support to Ghost Protocol

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

Worldwide (PRWEB) January 12, 2012

Although the blockbuster hit Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol was shot primarily with the IMAX camera system, there were several complicated sequences that relied on the HD cameras and technical systems from the innovative people at Loyal Studios and Pro HD Rentals.

Director Brad Bird comes from an animation background, and is noted for meticulously story-boarding every shot in the Moviesometimes going through several revisions before achieving his vision of how the final sequence is to be shot. Our teams worked with Skydance Productions and Bad Robot to develop POV (point of view) cameras which were used extensively throughout the picture, said Bob Bekian of Loyal Studios. We were very excited and honored to work with Tom Cruise, Brad, and their teams on this project to help to bring the story to life. Many of these camera systems were used to pre-visualize the scenes and make adjustments to the action and lighting before the actual take was recorded on the IMAX system. This strategy helped to develop the complicated, expensive action sequences into what the viewer sees on the screen.

The movie was shot in Budapest, Moscow, Dubai and Vancouver which was made to look like Bangalore.

One of the most exciting sequences involves Tom Cruise scaling the tallest building in the world known as the Berj Khalifa in Dubai. We provided specialized cameras and lenses that were used to capture some of this amazing footage, and Tom was very respected by the crew in his willingness and ability to do many of the complicated stunts himself, Bekian added.

Another challenge was to capture the action sequence involving the BMW Supercar known as the Vision. Obtaining this epic shot caused Bird and his crew to think creatively in order to overcome a number of issues. Many types of cameras were used throughout the car sequences, including the workhorse Canon 5D DSLR Camera system.

Best DSLR Video Settings For Canon Cameras

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Guest post for Darren Rowse: www.digital-photography-school.com For more videos go to: www.learningDSLRVideo.com Transcription: ——————- I get this question about once a week, “What are the Best Video Setting For The Canon DSLR cameras”. So let me start off by eliminating two things you can take off the list. Those are aperture and ISO. Aperture, I really can’t tell you what to set it on because it depends on the type of look you are going after. With a shallow depth of field or not. And the other one is ISO. ISO is kind of there for exposure how how you are going to set the exposure. I will say you do not want go too far north of let’s say 1600 especially on like the Canon T2i then it gets really noisy. Obviously you are going to need to use aperture along with the ISO to get the right exposure but at least it gets you in the ball park. Those two ingredients are taken off the list. So the first I can tell you about what is on the list is shutter speed. Basically if you are going for a “filmic” look you are pretty much going to double your frame rate, so if you are shooting 24 frames per second you are going to want a 1/50th of a second shutter speed and if you are shooting at 60 frames per second you are going to go with 125th frames per second shutter speed. Now I will tell you it’s just kind of a guideline and a rule but I have shot at much higher shutter speeds and it has worked wonderful, especially if you are shooting something like myself which is just
Video Rating: 4 / 5

Nikons vs. Canons
Nikon Camera

THIS COLLAGE IS OUT OF DATE. NOTES AND COMMENTS ON IT ARE NOW CLOSED. PLEASE GO TO THE NEWER COLLAGE. THANK YOU.

UPDATED 7 JAN 2009: I have created a much updated and expanded version of this image, which includes the current Nikon and Canon DSLRs as of January 2009, as well as competing models from Sony/Minolta, Olympus, Panasonic/Leica, and Pentax, as well as others. You may wish to check that out instead. See my blog post too.

Publicity photos © 2007 Nikon and Canon. Relative sizes are not exact. Top left camera costs about 0, with lens. Lower right camera costs about 00, no lens. See the blog post I wrote about them.

The top row of this image became obsolete as early as February 2008, since Canon introduced the Rebel XSi (a.k.a. the 450D) and Nikon the D60. As of later in 2008, Canon replaced the 40D with the 50D. There are also the new D700 from Nikon, and the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, which replaced the original full-frame 5D.
