So let me start off by eliminating two things you can take off the list. Those are aperture and ISO. Aperture, I really can’t tell you what to set it on because it depends on the type of look you are going after. With a shallow depth of field or not. And the other one is ISO. ISO is kind of there for exposure how how you are going to set the exposure. I will say you do not want go too far north of let’s say 1600 especially on like the Canon T2i then it gets really noisy. Obviously you are going to need to use aperture along with the ISO to get the right exposure but at least it gets you in the ball park. Those two ingredients are taken off the list. So the first I can tell you about what is on the list is shutter speed. Basically if you are going for a “filmic” look you are pretty much going to double your frame rate, so if you are shooting 24 frames per second you are going to want a 1/50th of a second shutter speed and if you are shooting at 60 frames per second you are going to go with 125th frames per second shutter speed. Now I will tell you it’s just kind of a guideline and a rule but I have shot at much higher shutter speeds and it has worked wonderful, especially if you are shooting something like myself which is just …
Video Rating: 4 / 5

@suzanneszarai A shutter rate higher that the standard film look rule will give you a jumpy look (which can be usefull). Also as stated below? it can help during slow-mo or chromakey due to lack of motion blur.
@gfoster31 If you shoot and playback any framerate it will? be ‘normal speed’. The trick is to shoot a high framerate then play back at say 24fps or whatever you usually use.

I own? a 550D (T2i) and I wanted to ask if I can change shutter speed, or iso settings while filming without the magic lantern update? I have the firm ware version 1.0.9. Thank You
Nice video.. I had Canon 60D but i still cannot get the HD output like? what u have in your video.. How did you convert your video why its too sharp and clear? Thanks
Hi Dave, what’s the best codec/format to render videos for YouTube. Your videos are crisp at 360px,? mine are soft even in HD. Thanks.
Dave I am torn between the t2i and the t3i! What will the audio settings feature on the t3i help? me achieve par magic lantern?
@gfoster31 metoo….all i know is ,shoot the video in 60fps(720p) and slow it with twixtor.;..its a plugin in adobe after effects..funny? part i dono how to use it.(twixtor)..;(
Clicked on this? cuz I thought he was groping himself… Now I’m entranced.
@gfoster31 do a search on my site for slow motion and you will find some stuff, but I? am working on a really comprehensive one on slow motion that should help you – no idea when I will finish it.
@drumat5280 Hey Dave I was wondering if you could send me some tips. I have been trying for 7 hours to shoot slo mo at 60 fps, and have? it play back in camera. Can you send me a link to the video where you talk about filming your kids?

Thanks a? lot dave! This was really helpful
Keep up the good work
@suzanneszarai higher is better if you are going really slow your footage down or do green screen? with a higher frame rate.
I thought higher shutter? speed would be OK for more movement in order to freeze the action for each frame. Can someone please explain?
wow i’ve watched this video before and now noticed you’ve added english captions/subtitles… i’m interested in adding these to my videos as well.. how did you do go abouts doing? that Dave? thanks in advance~
